This is a Stanley No. 32 Left Hand Boxwood Caliper Rule. It is a One Foot, Four-Fold model which is 1 inch wide. This model is made with an extra-strong brass Arch Joint with Edge Plates.
This vintage Stanley tool has the mark of "IMPERFECT" stamped into the boxwood, probably due to the bit of missing wood below the caliper. Stanley Tool inspectors of the day were very picky and anything that was not top-notch would get the "IMPERFECT" mark. We doubt that these imperfections would affect the usefulness of the tool, and today's collectors may find them worth more than a perfect one.
Each tool had been carefully cleaned using orange pumice hand cleaner and the brass parts have been polished using Simicrome Polish.
The Stanley folding rule is perfect to display as a work of art or you can give it a job in your workshop.
